Prime Hunting Spots
For those looking for great hunting in the Greater Mauston area, we are home to several public hunting grounds. Between Necedah National Wildlife Refuge and Buckhorn State Park, the Mauston area offers a great opportunity for outdoor junkies looking to take their turkey game to the next level. Necedah Wildlife Refuge, consisting of over 44,000 acres, works to ensure the overall strength of its ecosystem and their inhabitants. This robust natural environment will assure a weekend hunting success. Buckhorn State Park rests on the peninsula of the Castle Rock Flowage on the Wisconsin River. Here you have access to several publicly available blinds spanning over 4,000 acres. Check each site for further information and specific details about hunting on these public lands, so you are ready to set your scope on a nice sized gobbler this season!
Lemonweir Boat Access
You can enjoy boat access to the Lemonweir River, which runs from western Juneau County, through New Lisbon and Mauston, to its mouth on the Wisconsin River. If you plan to navigate the Lemonweir River, you will witness a moderately calm current as well as the rich wildlife that occupies the river.
