Gravity Box Brewing Company
With the February 24th opening of the Gravity Box Brewing Company, Mauston is now part of the ever growing craft beer industry. The craft beer industry has seen tremendous growth in the past several years. Not just in the US, but worldwide, and Wisconsin is not to be left out. Based on 2019 data, Wisconsin Craft breweries ranked 9th in the nation by producing 6.9 gallons of beer per adult (21+). According to sources at The Wisconsin Beer Guide, there are currently about 225 breweries in Wisconsin. Mauston’s last brewery, Mauston Brewing, closed in 1916 due to a fire.
The brewery is owned by April and Micah Playman and is located at 134 E. State Street, commonly known as the Witte building. Both April and Micah grew up in the area and after living and working in Milwaukee they ended up moving back to be closer to family. Once here, they realized that it was not easy to get what they enjoyed most, which is a good craft beer. They decided to do something about that and opened their own brewery.
Gravity Box Brewing has a wide variety of beers, including non-alcoholic selections. That includes Ales, Lagers, Kettle Sours, Hard Seltzer’s, and even Non-Alcoholic Beer. You will also find a house-made soda. They also serve cold-brew coffee on Nitro. For the beer aficionado, you can find their current selection on the Untapped app. They have 16 lines of craft tap beer which are always changing, including 1-3 guest beers from other breweries. Their beers are currently only available on tap but they do plan on offering Growlers and Crowlers this summer.
They do not serve food but you can use any local business for carry out/delivery to the taproom. Menus of participating local businesses are available onsite. Plans also include to have food trucks available when permissible.
